Icons are an essential part of the church and called special liturgical veneration.
The Greek word for “Icon” is, “Αγιογραφία,”.
Icons are engraved on wood, which are made with natural materials, such as natural glue, which includes rabbit glue (κουνελόκολλα), egg yolk, etc. For the painting we use natural paints powders and gold. The icon is created by prayer for prayer. Just as it is inevitable to capsize while steering a boat with one oar, so the icon painter, the Christian must combine work and prayer in order to move in the desired direction.
